Philip Ekemezie, 31, was arrested and charged in an Ondo State Magistrate Court in Akure, the state capital, for allegedly stealing N17 million from the company where he worked.
A man, John Chukwu, 50, and his daughter, Joy Mary Chukwu, 26, were also accused of collecting N361,000 and N600,000, respectively, from the suspect.
The culprits were each charged with two counts of stealing and receiving stolen property.
The prosecution attorney, I.O Osobu, informed the court that between 2018 and 2020, Ekemezie committed the felony by illegally converting the N17 million to his own use.
The prosecutor went on to say that the father and daughter collected the money despite knowing it was stolen.
Sections 390(6) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, according to Osobu, are violated.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the accusations.
Some of those who got the stolen money was on the run, according to Osobu, and if the suspects were freed on bond, they would not be discovered again.
The first defendant was granted N5 million bail with a guarantee in the same amount, while the second and third defendants were each given N500,000 bail with two sureties.
The case has been rescheduled until April 20, 2022.
