At The Lagos Airport, An American Was Apprehended With Guns.

Date:

This is surprising, but we know better than to jump to conclusions too quickly.

At the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, officials from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) apprehended an American citizen carrying firearms yesterday.

The firearms were said to have been checked in by the male passenger, who arrived in the country at 10:10 a.m. aboard a United Airlines flight from Houston, Texas.

He was also reported to have two international passports, one Nigerian and the other American.

According to a source, the Americans did not declare firearms as required by international firearms carriage legislation.

According to another report, the passenger possessed documentation from the United States that enabled him to carry firearms, but the authenticity of the papers could not be verified.

According to the source: “Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted the passenger with the firearms during screening. So far, he is undergoing scrutiny from the officials of the service and will be handed over to the relevant authorities after interrogation.

“We learnt that the passenger with dual citizenship has the approval of the US Government to carry firearms, but such should have been declared at the port of entry, which he didn’t do. However, we are yet to verify the documents he’s carrying.”

We’d have to wait for confirmation before concluding, but it doesn’t seem right, and I believe the port should be notified.
