Olubankole Wellington, better known by his stage name as Banky W, a popular Nigerian singer and politician, has expressed how modern marriages have become something couples endure rather than enjoy.
The 41-year-old musician said this on a radio show with his wife, Adesua Etomi, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, a Nigerian media personality, in the series, the Black Box Interview.
In response to a query about how he met his wife, Adesua, the singer said that he couldn’t pay attention to her after several meetings since he wasn’t ready to settle down.
He also mentioned that couples have difficulty staying together because they hurry into marriage before they are ready.
He said, “I honestly think that God blinded my eyes until I was in a place where I would be working to be the type of man that would treat his daughter properly. Until I got to that place, God didn’t let me see her.
“So I saw her, you know, and I was like, ‘nice girl, fine girl, okay nice to meet you,’ and I kept moving. I was in a different place in my life. And men know, men always know when we are ready. And until you’re ready, you’re not ready.
“And if you’re not ready, it doesn’t matter how great somebody is, if you as a man, you’re not ready to settle down and be dedicated or whatever, you’re just gonna mess it up or end up in this miserable situation.
“And that’s why I think today that marriage has turned into this thing we endure rather than enjoy.”
On November 19, 2017, Banky W and Adesua married, and in early 2021, they announced the birth of their son.
I quite agree with him, if the man isn’t ready then he isn’t, no matter how good the lady is.
