The Lagos State People Democratic Party (PDP) has chastised the government for shutting down Chrisland Schools in the aftermath of a viral video showing its students engaged in sexual activities.
In fact, the PDP blamed the APC-led state government for exacerbating the social institution’s downfall.
In a statement issued by Hakeem Amode, the state Publicity Secretary, the PDP accused the government of failing to fulfill its regulatory responsibilities, resulting in a bad economy that forces parents to prioritize income over the critical role of parenting in society.
A video of Chrisland School pupils engaging in sexual activities had surfaced on social media.
This resulted in revelations, allegations, and counter-accusations between school officials and the girl’s mother.
The Lagos State government responded by closing the school and ordering an investigation.
Despite the fact that the party criticized the children’s immoral act and the school administrators’ incompetence, the PDP did not appear impressed, claiming that the government created the atmosphere for such instances to occur in the first place.
PDP claims that,“governments should be blamed for distancing themselves from the way our schools are regulated.
“This is an example of the total breakdown of moral values in society.
“Due to the hunger in the land and pursuit for extra bread on the table, parents that can afford it prefer to send their children to unregulated expensive schools.
“If this could happen in a highbrow school, imagine what is going on in ‘less-privileged public schools’.
“The government should wake up. Closing down schools is not the answer.
“They should look more at regulations and providing good schools that are affordable for all, inrespective of class or financial status.
“This will give parents more opportunities to be close to their children and install moral values that are desperately becoming a thing of the past in this country.
“It must be noted that the Chrisland incidence is also as a result of APC government failing the masses.”
