Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, generally known as Simi, a Nigerian musician and songwriter, has called on churches and Christian institutions to do better when it comes to those seeking help.
Simi turned to social media to express her feelings on Osinachi Nwachukwu, a gospel artist who died over the weekend as a result of alleged domestic violence.
It was claimed that Osinachi hesitated to leave her abusive spouse because of ‘what the church would say afterwards,’ based on several chats between deceased friends and colleagues, screenshots, and live videos that appeared online after her death.
Simi said, “The church needs to start letting people know that it is okay to speak out when they are going through something, ask for help when they need help. You’re not any less of a Christian or born again if you’re going through something and you speak out
She added, “People are going through domestic violence, depression, abuse of whatever kind, they are just suffering from some kind of mental illness and they are not getting any help, they are not doing therapy, they are not talking to anyone because ‘if you have Christ or the Holy Spirit in you, you should not be going through this’, just pray.
“Too many Christians are suffering, we need to start doing better as Christians. People with platforms especially very popular Christian platforms need to start using and advocating for people that need help. It is very important because it is so sad to see that there are so many people suffering in silence and they don’t have anywhere to turn to for help.”
Well i agreed with her, if am asked.
