The Port Harcourt Correctional Centre in Rivers State has revealed that some detainees attempted to escape from the facility.
On Monday, a fight “broke out between two convicts,” which quickly escalated into a violent scene.
Some convicts were alleged to have attempted to escape through the fence by taking advantage of the chaos but were “gun down” by security guards.
Juliet Ofoni, the Correctional Center’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the event.
Some convicts tried to jump the fence, but were shot down by security, and “everything has been brought under control,” according to Ofoni.
While stressing that no one was killed in the event, the spokesperson stated that those who were shot were brought to the hospital for treatment.
Such a sudden scenario with a good reflex response, we commend the security over there.
