In Sokoto, A Boat Sinks Killing 28 People.

Date:

Such a horrible incident!

Yesterday, a boat carrying around 34 passengers sank in Magana village, Shagari Local Government Area, Sokoto State, killing 28 people.

Locals were being transported by boat from nearby villages to big cities for their everyday activities.

The boat left the hamlet with 34 people on board, but 28 people died when it sank, according to Mohammed Auwalu, the village head of Gidan-Magana.

He said: “It happened on Wednesday morning when the boat was trying to cross over to a nearby Badiyawa village. The boat hit a tree inside the water and it capsized with all the passengers on the boat. Six were, however, rescued.

“The victims have since been buried according to Muslim rites. The remaining six survivors have been conveyed to the General Hospital in Shagari where they are currently receiving treatment.”

Mas’oud Shagari, the secretary of the Shagari Local Government Area, reported that over 26 bodies had been rescued from the river, and that the search for survivors and lifeless remains was still ongoing.

I suppose I’ll conclude by saying that safety precautions should be followed at all times.
