Manchester City defeated Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Pep Guardiola has spoken out after fierce displays marred his team’s 0-0 draw with Atlético Madrid on Wednesday night but were direct when asked about the incident.
Stefan Savic pulled Jack Grealish’s hair as things kicked off on the pitch before the incident escalated in the tunnel. It came after the Premier League champions booked a spot in the semi-finals with a dogged display in Spain.
Atlético kicked off at the end of City’s 0-0 draw.
Defender Savic was angry when Phil Foden went down following a tackle by Felipe, who received his marching orders shortly afterward.
The situation progressively got out of control in the tunnel until eight police officials had to get involved and bring the chaos to an end.
Guardiola remarked on the match, praising his team for their performance on the night as they earned a spot in the last four – while refusing to deliberate on the brawl that broke out in the closing stages.
“It’s the champions of Spain, and in the second half, they were better than us. So we were lucky we didn’t concede,” he said.
