Ogah joins Abia governorship race

Date:

The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uche Ogah, has formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat of Abia State in 2023 on the platform of the All-Progressives Congress (APC).

After his declaration to join the race at the APC State Secretariat, Umuahia, Ogah noted that he would deliver Abia and Abians from the dearth of infrastructure and human development, while pledging to move Abia forward.

In a statement issued, yesterday, in Abuja, by the Head of Press and Public Relations Unit of the ministry, Mrs. Etore Thomas, Ogah noted that his decision to contest for governor was hinged on his love for Abia and his firm commitment to achieve a vision of rapid transformation of Abia. He added that his experiences, together with successes both in the private and public sectors, as well as being the largest employer of labour in Abia after the state government, has equipped him to serve the state as governor.

The minister said that as an entrepreneur, he braved the odds and sited one of the Eastern biggest industrial clusters called Masters Industrial City (MIC) in his hometown, Onuaku, Uturu, creating jobs and wealth for his people, as well as Masters Energy Agricultural City (MEAC) in Abia State, where he acquired hectares of land for massive agricultural development in line with Federal Government’s Transformational Agenda.

IN another development, the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend, lost one of its young governorship aspirants to the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Mr. Onyekwere Uche, who said that his aspiration was motivated by the urge to bring new hope that would encourage young Nigerians to effectively participate in governance and contribute more effectively to the development of the nation.

The Concord. ng gathered that Uche’s defection from the PDP to YPP, was partly based on the high and prohibitive costs of PDP’s expression of interest and nomination forms, which the youths consider as a deliberate strategy to exclude them from the political process in favor of the richer elders, lamenting that this is still the practice even at a time, globally, the younger generation is being encouraged and elected to take charge of governance.

While making his formal declaration at his Amaba country home in Isuikwuato Local Council of the state after registering as member of the YPP, Uche urged the state to elect a youth as next governor, stressing that doing so would provide youths the opportunity to formulate and execute pro-youth policies and thus shape their own destiny.
