Pep Guardiola could extend his stay at Manchester City – if they can get a deal for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Erling Haaland over the line this summer.
Guardiola could reportedly delay his exit at Manchester City if the Premier League champions can snap up Erling Haaland this summer.
A host of European juggernauts is tracking Haaland after his stunning spell with Borussia Dortmund. Haaland has fired 33 goals in just 31 games for both club and country and is expected to quit the Bundesliga in the coming weeks.
It is reported that Manchester City has won the race for the coveted Norwegian striker. A renowned Spanish journalist, Guillem Balague, revealed that Haaland has heard that his arrival could lead to Guardiola prolonging his stay in Manchester.
Balague also revealed that Guardiola has ‘wanted’ to sign a striker since his ‘second season at City. The move for Haaland – which would cost the reigning champions around £62million due to a release clause in his contract – comes just 12 months after City failed to lure Harry Kane to the Etihad from Tottenham.
Despite not signing the striker he’s desired, Guardiola has transformed City since he was appointed back in 2016. The Spaniard is currently on course to clinch his fourth league title at the Etihad. However, the former Bayern Munich chief now has just one year remaining on his current City deal.
