Nura Usman and Adamu Dauda were detained in a correctional facility by a Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, on Thursday for allegedly defecating in a mosque.
Usman and Dauda were charged with public disturbance and instigating violence by the police.
The case was continued until April 28 for the police to present witnesses, according to the judge, Malam Rilwanu Kyaudai.
Members of the community handed Usman and Dauda over to the Tudun Wada Police station on April 11, according to the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Shuaibu.
Usman was spotted defecating in a mosque on Alkalawa road in Tudun Wada Kaduna around 2 p.m., he said.
He claimed that the second defendant, Dauda, had given Usman N20,000 once he defecated in the mosque.
They entered a not guilty plea.
