The battle between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for quite some time, and some even refer to it as World War III.
The UN Secretary-General has stated that the people of Ukraine cannot accept the violence that is being perpetrated on them as a result of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, stated this while urging Ukraine and Russia to “silence the guns” and “accelerate dialogue toward peace.”
Guterres also warned that the world is on the verge of a “perfect storm,” as the conflict in Ukraine exacerbates a global economy that is already ailing.
The UN chief said in a news release on Wednesday that the war might result in a “three-dimensional crisis” in food, energy, and finance, all of which have already been impacted by COVID-19 and climate change.
“We are now facing a perfect storm that threatens to devastate the economies of developing countries,” Guterres said.
“The people of Ukraine cannot bear the violence being inflicted on them.
“And the most vulnerable people around the globe cannot become collateral damage in yet another disaster for which they bear no responsibility.”
“We need to pull developing countries back from the financial brink,” he added. “The international financial system has deep pockets.
“Above all, this war must end. We need to silence the guns and accelerate negotiations towards peace now.
“For the people of Ukraine. For the people of the region. And for the people of the world,” he said.
We hope that the battle will be over soon.
